Norwegian regulator approves Biovind's biogas plant but cuts permitted capacity nearly in half and bans food waste

    • The County Governor of Rogaland has said yes to Biovind building a biogas plant in Ølen, but the plant may only receive 125,000 tonnes of manure and organic waste per year – not the 226,000 tonnes the company asked for.
    • Food waste is not allowed. The reason is the smell risk and uncertainty about whether food waste would lower the quality of the leftover fertiliser product.
