  1. Statistics

Lower power prices in week 41 on more wind power; southern Norway became a net importer for the first time in five weeks

    • Power prices fell in all Norwegian price areas from week 40 to week 41. In southern and central Norway they fell by about 20 øre per kilowatt-hour. Prices also fell in the rest of the Nordics and in parts of Europe.
    • Weekly prices: south-east Norway 128 øre/kWh (−19), south-west 136 (−20), central 80 (−22), north 26 (−4) and west 119 (−23).

  2. Statistics

Norway's reservoir fill level rose to 69.0 percent at end of week 40

    • Norway's water reservoirs were 69.0 percent full at the end of week 40. That is 1.1 percentage points more than the week before.
    • The week 41 statistics show how much energy the reservoirs hold and how full they are. They also include historical figures and charts.

NVE sets out what Blåfall AS must assess before applying for a licence for Randalen power plant

    • NVE has decided what must be studied before the Randalen power plant can be built in Rana, Nordland. The company Blåfall AS must do the studies before applying for a licence (permit).
    • Many people who gave input cared about the flow of the Ranelva river, wildlife and nature, reindeer herding, landscape, outdoor life and the total pressure on the area. These will now be studied.

NVE found 46 deviations in Statkraft's dam safety work and orders corrections under threat of coercive fines

    • NVE (the Norwegian water and energy authority) checked how Statkraft looks after the safety of its dams in Sauda and Northern Norway. It found 26 deviations (breaches of requirements) in Sauda and 20 in Northern Norway. NVE calls them very serious.
    • The problems include not following up technical requirements and earlier decisions, weak internal control and organisation, poor monitoring and protection of measurement data, and safety assessments not done well enough.

  5. Report

More wind power lowered prices in Central and Northern Norway in week 40, while southern prices rose

    • It was windier across the Nordics in week 40, most of all in the north. Wind power in Central Norway (NO3) almost doubled, the highest since week 18.
    • More wind power pushed electricity prices down in Central and Northern Norway. This made it less attractive to use reservoir water, so hydropower output there fell.

    • Norway's water reservoirs were 67.9 percent full at the end of week 40 in 2026.
    • The level hardly changed during the week.

Norway's building regulations allow organisational flood and landslide protection measures for new construction from 1 October 2026

    • From 1 October 2026, builders in flood- or landslide-prone areas can use activatable protection measures – like pop-up flood walls or flood gates – to meet Norwegian building code safety requirements, even for new buildings.
    • Until now, this was only allowed to protect buildings that already existed; the rule change opens it up to new construction as well.

  8. Statistics

Norwegian reservoir levels rose in week 39, but power prices surged to up to 142 øre/kWh in the south

    • Norwegian water reservoirs filled up for a second week running thanks to heavy inflow. Nord-Norge was the exception. Reservoirs in south-west and central Norway are still lower than usual for this time of year.
    • There was little wind across the Nordics and Europe in week 39, and many Swedish and Finnish nuclear plants were offline for maintenance. Hydropower had to fill the gap, pushing prices up everywhere.

NVE threatens Nscale with coercive fines after illegal construction start on 230 MW data centre in Narvik

    • Nscale started building a large data centre in Narvik without submitting a report the law requires — a report showing whether the heat produced by the facility could warm homes or other buildings nearby.
    • NVE has given Nscale until 15 November 2026 to submit the report. If they miss the deadline, they face a recurring daily fine. NVE had already sent a first warning in the summer of 2026.
