New digital portal for concession clearance is expected to save society NOK 113 million a year

    • The Norwegian Agriculture Agency has built a new online portal. People fill in concession clearance digitally instead of on paper. When finished, it is expected to save society NOK 113 million each year.
    • About 100,000 properties change owner each year. The new owner must check whether they can take over without a concession (a permit from the municipality) or must apply for one. This has been slow and awkward for citizens, agents and municipalities.

    • Food waste (food that is thrown away or not eaten) in farming rose 24 percent in 2025, to 53,169 tonnes. That is 2.04 percent of production, 0.25 percentage points more than in 2024. Waste fell in 2023 and 2024 after rising in 2021 and 2022.
    • Over the five years measured, waste has been between 1.37 and 2.34 percent of production. That is a small and fairly steady share. The ups and downs mostly come from fruit and vegetable production.

Agricultural food waste rose to 2.0% in 2025 on fresh produce, while grain and eggs fell markedly

    • Farming wasted 2.0% of the food it produced in 2025. The year before it was 1.8%. Since 2020 it has ranged from 1.4% to 2.3%.
    • The rise is mainly due to difficult weather, which led to more waste of fruit and vegetables.

    • The money comes from profits on horse betting. It goes to organisations and causes that do not aim to make a profit, and that should strengthen the place of horses in Norway.
