Master's thesis concludes that Norway's stricter 2025 supervisory sanctions against healthcare workers generally do not constitute criminal punishment under the ECHR

    • From 1 January 2025, Norwegian authorities can impose tougher and longer-lasting penalties on healthcare workers — for example extended licence suspensions — to protect patients and maintain public trust.
    • The thesis asks whether these new penalties are so severe that they count as criminal punishment under the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), which would prevent authorities from also prosecuting the same person in a criminal court for the same act.

Helfo changes deadline calculation – applications rejected before 30 October 2025 may be reconsidered

    • Helfo has changed its rules: the deadline to apply for reimbursement now counts from the day you paid the bill – not the day you received treatment or bought the medicine.
    • If your application was rejected for being too late, or if you never applied because you thought the deadline had passed, you may be able to get your case looked at again – provided this happened before 30 October 2025.

Norwegian Patient Injury Board suspends processing of post-covid-vaccination headache claims pending review of new study

    • The Norwegian Patient Injury Board has pressed pause on all claims where patients report long-lasting headache after a covid-19 vaccine. The reason is a new Norwegian research study (Blix et al.) looking at whether covid infection or vaccination can cause new-onset headache.
    • The study could mean the board needs to handle these cases differently, so no decisions will be made until the research has been reviewed.
